Who We Are

 

The University of Michigan (U-M) University Health & Counseling (UHC) a unit of Student Life (SL), is an AAAHC accredited outpatient multispecialty health clinic that serves a large and diverse student body of more than 45,000 students, as well as U-M faculty and staff. UHC provides direct patient care through its primary care and specialty clinics, and contributes to public health, epidemiological surveillance, health education and promotion on campus. UHC reports administratively to the AVP of Student Life for Health and Wellness, uses the same instance of Epic (Michart) as Michigan Medicine, and closely collaborates with Michigan Medicine public health agencies. 

UHC provides clinical services throughout its primary care and specialty clinics, as well as health and wellness education and promotion. Specialty clinics include Allergy, Dermatology, Eating and Body Image Concerns, Eye Care, Gynecology & Sexual Health, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Psychiatry, Sleep, Social Work, Sports Medicine and Travel Health. Patient care is additionally supported through an on-site CLIA high complexity laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology suite. Annually UHC completes >90,000 clinician visits, >4900 radiologic studies, >35,000 laboratory tests, and fills >25,000 prescriptions.

Job Summary

 

Provide nursing care in a variety of settings within University Health & Counseling. The patient population is mostly undergraduate and graduate college students and some alumni, staff and campus employees. Primary areas include Treatment Center, Allergy/Travel Clinic, Medical Clinic, Infectious Disease, and Gynecology and Sexual Health Clinic. Duties include triage of walk-in patients, telephone management, patient and family education, assistance with procedures, administration of allergy immunotherapy, functional supervision of assistive personnel, and other responsibilities as requested.

Responsibilities*

 

Clinical Care 90%:

  •  In person triage
  •  Phone triage 
  •  Patient Education 
  •  Assist with procedures 
  •  Public health guidance to patients in primary care, specialty, and gynecological clinics 
  •  In clinic support including, but not limited to injections, point of care testing, vital sign monitoring, education, allergy immunotherapy, wound care, and orthopedic care 
  •  The individual in this position is expected to work independently and to regularly exercise judgment in the setting of priorities, resolving problems and application of policies, procedures, and methods.

Administrative 10%:

  • Participation in nurse governance committee 
  • Participation in quality improvement activities
  • Participation in monthly workload meetings

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current nursing licensure in the state of Michigan 
  • Two (2) years within the last five (5) years of Registered Nurse experience in an Adult Emergency Department 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to remain stationary for extended periods
  • Occasional lifting of more than 10 pounds

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Work Schedule

 

Location University Health Service 207 Fletcher Rd. Ann Arbor, Mi 48109 

After 6-month orientation: Onsite 4-days and Hybrid 1-day 

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8am-430 pm. Occasional Saturday hours.

Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
