The Residential College First-Year Writing Seminar Program is seeking to hire part-time Intermittent Lecturers to teach RCCORE 100, for the Fall 2026 semester. Lecturers will teach one or two sections, each comprising a 33.33% position.

Residential College First-Year Writing Seminars (FYWS) satisfy the LSA First-Year Writing Requirement. The FYWS is intended to support students development as college writers and thinkers, introducing them to the intellectual life of the university and Residential College through small seminar classes emphasizing reading, writing, and discussion. Course content varies based on the interests and disciplinary background of the instructor. 

FYWS Lecturers design and teach classes of approximately fifteen first-semester undergraduates in the RCs interdisciplinary liberal arts program. Additional duties include participation in program faculty meetings focused on professional development as college writing instructors as well as general RC faculty meetings.

Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in college teaching, with expertise in writing pedagogy and a commitment to equity-oriented practices. Additional expertise in one or more academic disciplines is preferred, as is familiarity with the Residential College.

Minimum: M.A. with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

Ph.D. is desirable.

Lecturer Compensation 
33.33%-66.67% appointment in Fall 2026.
 

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
