Job Summary

 

A research technician is wanted for a project in a translational science laboratory specializing in research in immunodermatology. The position will entail laboratory bench work to study mechanisms of human immune-mediated diseases.

Responsibilities*

 

The candidate will work closely with an experienced clinical research team to provide and ensure the following:

  • Protocol Adherence: Review and follow specific Sponsor protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each unique trial.
  • Sample Processing: Processing of human skin and blood including but not limited to isolating peripheral blood mononuclear cells from whole blood, centrifuging blood samples, aliquoting serum/plasma, and preparing samples for analysis according to protocol guidelines.
  • Sample analysis: Perform routine molecular and cellular biology experimental procedures under the supervision of research staff.
  • Documentation & Data Entry: Log samples into a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or database, ensuring accurate labeling and tracking.
  • Sample Storage & Handling: Store processed samples at specified temperatures and maintain accurate inventories.
  • Quality Control: Monitor equipment temperatures, coordinate annual calibration of instruments.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow biohazard safety procedures, including proper handling of blood and skin samples and sterilization of work areas. Maintain current IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations certification.
  • Shipping Preparation: Prepare, pack, and ship biological samples to central labs or sponsors according to IATA regulations.
  • Kit & Supply Management: Monitoring inventory, restocking consumables, and preparing "next-day" collection kits and tubes.
  • Sample Transport: Transport samples among sites (hospital, laboratory, laboratory cores; shuttles available) and schedule couriers for sample transport.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Education: Associate's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience. 
  • Laboratory Experience: 1 year of laboratory technician experience.
  • Attention to Detail: High precision in labeling and handling samples to avoid errors.
  • Communication: Ability to work with clinical staff to correct sample discrepancies.
  • Self-starter: capable of working effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to assess workload, establish priorities, and shift focus efficiently between competing tasks

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree. 
  • Laboratory Experience: Experience with molecular biology techniques including human cells and tissue processing, tissue sectioning, DNA/RNA isolation, microscopy. 2 years' experience with science-related projects preferred.
