Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise related to IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.

Who We Are

 

Division Overview

The HITS Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) division is responsible for more than 450 clinical and revenue cycle applications that clinicians, staff, and patients rely upon every day. The CRC team has subdivisions that support inpatient, ambulatory, departmental, and revenue cycle areas across Michigan Medicine (MM). CRC also oversees many of the major IT platforms and applications such as the electronic health record, virtual care, pharmacy, radiology, radiation oncology, registration, document management, billing, and much more. The CRC team is highly relied upon across the healthcare system and collaborates with operational partners to provide excellent service to the MM staff. Staff within CRC often interact with customers on a regular basis by implementing and configuring workflows, enhancements, optimizations, and new modules or software while also ensuring adequate change control and testing processes occur. Team members work on a vast array of projects that propel MM into the future. 

The Clinical & Revenue Cycle IT (CRC) Division of Health Information Technology Clinical Documentation Team at Michigan Medicine is seeking a candidate to fulfill the role of Business Analyst Senior. The Senior Business Analyst is a pivotal role, responsible for leveraging both Epic system configuration expertise and regulatory compliance knowledge to enhance clinical systems and support patient care delivery. This position requires a unique blend of skills in clinical information systems, regulatory reporting, and project management to effectively meet the strategic goals of the organization.

Responsibilities*

 

EpicCare Ambulatory System Configuration

  • Utilize expertise in Epic, including proficiency in EpicCare Ambulatory (or Inpatient) to plan, design, develop, implement, and maintain clinical systems.
  • Participate in system upgrades, maintenance, and configuration, ensuring systems meet enterprise goals.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, including nurses, ancillary staff, and physicians, to ensure the Epic system meets clinical user needs.


Regulatory Compliance and Reporting

  • Implement workflows, track and report performance on Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Electronic Clinical Quality Measures (eCQMs), 
  • Provide submission report for the following programs: Promoting Interoperability, Patient Reported Outcome -Performance Measures (PRO-PM), MIPS, Alternative Payment Model (APM), and Ambulatory Specialty Model. 
  • Create and maintain Epic-based reporting tools to support Quality and Population Health departments to achieve objectives in multiple programs.
  • Attend and contribute to internal meetings w/ Quality, Population Health, and Reporting teams, along with collaborative meetings with Epic TS meetings and other MiChart (Epic) teams. Attend webinars for staying up to date on regulatory requirements, compliance, and new measure discussions (e.g., Epic Carrot webinars, vendor hosted sessions).
       

Project and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead meetings, prioritize tasks, manage project plans work within specific timelines, and facilitate conflict resolution to ensure successful project execution.
  • Work independently to analyze, compare, and evaluate different courses of action, making independent decisions that significantly impact business operations.
  • Mentor and support less experienced Business Analysts to foster a collaborative and efficient working environment.


Documentation and Communication

  • Document changes, build processes, and maintain comprehensive records for system specifications, Epic checklists, and mapping updates.
  • Effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including regulatory teams, clinicians, and IT personnel, to provide updates, gather feedback, and refine system functionality.


Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Development

  • Remain up to date with proposed rules and new regulations in multiple programs that may affect the Epic system or regulatory reporting practices.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis to identify and validate required measures, ensuring compliance with evolving healthcare regulations.
     

Required Qualifications*

 

Senior Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of application build in a clinical application or IT related experience.  This position requires EpicCare Ambulatory or EpicCare ClinDoc proficiency.
  • In-depth understanding of healthcare compliance and interoperability regulations, including familiarity with CMS, The Joint Commission, and ONC Standards.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team required.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and project management skills required.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop actionable insights required.
  • Competent in exercising discernment and decisiveness with an agile mindset.


Intermediate Analyst

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-3 years of application build in a clinical application or IT related experience.  This position will require EpicCare Ambulatory or EpicCare ClinDoc proficiency.
  • In-depth understanding of healthcare compliance and interoperability regulations, including familiarity with CMS, The Joint Commission, and ONC Standards.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team required.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, and project management skills required.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and develop actionable insights required.
     

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a clinical area, Health Informatics, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Strong understanding of electronic health records (EHR) systems and healthcare workflows.
  • In-depth understanding of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements and guidelines.
  • Understanding HIPAA regulations and data security best practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with clinical staff, IT teams, and stakeholders.
