The Rackham Partnerships for Access, Community, and Excellence (PACE) Office is seeking three (3) residential life leaders to serve as active and visible staff members responsible for supporting the residential life component of our prospective student programs (see below for a description of the three programs). This includes pre-arrival administration, supporting students? safety and well-being, facilitating community-building, serving as a liaison with conferences and event services staff, documenting best practices, and conducting program evaluation. These positions will be supervised by the Rackham Senior Program Lead for Outreach and Summer Programs. 

This position requires the selected candidates to live in the residence halls from May 21 through August 1, 2026, with additional availability to participate in staff training earlier in May. The position has a related temp appointment before and after the program, in May and August. During program dates, in the residence hall, the person will be available 2-3 nights per week to respond to any participant's emergency at night. Compensation for time in the residence hall will be $6,000 plus room & board (paid bi-weekly from May 23 to July 30). 

From May 5, 2025 - May 22, 2026, and July 31, 2026 - August 21, 2026, there will be hourly work expected that will include training and pre-program work from May 5-22, 2026, and post-program work from July 31-August 21, 2026, including drafting of final reports and assisting with assessment efforts. Applicants must be available for both the temporary Program Assistant position and the Residential Life Leader position to be considered. Individuals should expect between 5 and 20 hours per week during these times at an hourly rate of $29.71. 

The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) is a 10-week residential program at the University of Michigan designed for outstanding undergraduate students. The program strives to increase the number of diverse students with unique experiences by supporting their preparation for graduate studies. Through intensive mentorship, active learning, and enrichment activities, SROP fosters a community of scholars who increase social and cultural capital and networking while mastering research skills and knowledge that advance their preparation as candidates for successful graduate study at U-M and success in future careers, increasing representation in professional fields. (Program Dates: Saturday, May 23, 2026 to Thursday, July 30, 2026)

The Michigan Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS) program is a 2-week residential program designed to encourage rising seniors, recent B.A.s, and terminal Master's students from diverse cultural, economic, geographic, and ethnic backgrounds to consider pursuing a doctoral degree in humanities at the University of Michigan. (Program Dates: Saturday, May 23, 2026, to Saturday, June 6, 2026)

The Rackham Aspiring Fellows (RAF) is a year-long fellowship program at the University of Michigan designed to support a cohort of undergraduate students from select Partner Institutions to prepare for doctoral study. Fellows will work collaboratively on a research project with faculty from both U-M and their home institution, while also engaging in professional and academic development activities throughout the experience. RAF participants will begin their experience with a summer visit to campus. (Program Dates: TBD)

Personal commitments that would require absence for an extended period of time will eliminate applicants from consideration.  

PLEASE NOTE: Late afternoon and early evening work will be required; possible weekend work may be required with advance notice. The schedule varies based on the needs of the programs. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintain residence hall conditions conducive to the academic and personal development of all participants, including supporting the Senior Program Lead in managing residence hall situations involving conflict resolution or inappropriate behavior. The person will be expected to live in the residence hall during the program dates   

Communicate, in a timely fashion, all program-related concerns regarding participants that arise during engagement in the residence hall and programming

Assisting the Senior Program Lead and other team members with the creation, facilitation, and logistical implementation of program content, specifically evening and weekend programming 

Oversee and facilitate evening community hours twice weekly, including the monitoring and creation of a supply list of the necessary workshop supplies for planned activities

Collaborate with the summer program team to coordinate residence hall move-in/move-out plans for all programs

Attend and contribute to weekly meetings with the summer programs team and, separately, with the residential staff and Senior Program Lead

Assist in the creation of a final report for evaluation purposes

Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience. Must be available to work evening hours and weekends throughout the programs; schedules vary based on the needs of the program. Demonstrated experience in mentoring undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds, as well as program development and implementation. Excellent oral and written skills, including the ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters. Ability to handle multiple projects, work as part of a team, and exercise independent initiative. Previous experiences in summer research experiences for undergraduates (preferred) 

Familiarity with diversity issues in higher education and specifically the challenges faced by underrepresented populations is highly desired; 

Reasonable knowledge of University housing policies and procedures, University organization, and University protocol and governance;

Research and scholarly interest in student affairs/development.
