The Allied Health Supervisor Associate for Surgical Specialties reports to the Administrative Manager Associate in Surgical Specialties for Ambulatory Care Services at Michigan Medicine (ACS), and partners with the Surgical Specialties Admin Directors, CPLs, and Nursing Director in regard to performance and management of staff.
Surgical Specialties is a Segment within ACS that provides ambulatory care leadership for the Departments of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Surgery, and Urology. This position has dedicated effort to provide supervision and utilization management for the Surgery areas within Surgical Services.
Essential Functions
- Supervision and direction given to staff and engagement in their professional development
- Leads onboarding of new providers and staff, including UM standardized onboarding checklist and job-specific checklist
- Handles hiring/discipline and firing
- Provides feedback on operational issues involving providers in Specific assigned areas within Surgical Specialties
- Provides feedback/supervision/support/performance evaluation of assigned ACU staff
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement and carry forward quality improvement initiatives
Collaboration with Departments
- Collaborate with central authorization to mitigate loss of time due to no authorization and to fill last-minute cancellations
- Works regularly with support services functions to ensure operational goals are met
Patient Care
- Ensure patient satisfaction including analysis of patient and family feedback and corresponding action plan development and implementation
- Address and follow-through with patient/family feedback and complaints including implementation and ongoing evaluation of appropriate process improvements
- Collaborate with the ACU managers in Surgery to review incident reports and ensure appropriate follow-up
Managing Productivity Performance
- Manage productivity metrics within service lines
- Communicate performance metrics regularly with staff
Core Responsibilities
- Regularly review processes to ensure ongoing compliance with institutional goals, objectives, policies, standards, and guidelines
- Responsible for creating and managing staff schedules and time away
- Evaluates supporting function operations, identifying areas for improvement
- Foster collaborative environment by nurturing team-based care in a positive collegial and professional manner
- Participate actively and provide data, action planning, and other administrative leadership to meetings
- Coach, develop, and mentor team members
- Provide training for all new employees and ongoing training to staff
- Facilitate swaps and relinquishments of block time
- Lead process improvement efforts
- Troubleshoot and resolve ongoing operational issues
