Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan Investment Office is looking to add an investment analyst to the Venture and Private Equity (VPE) team for a two year tenure. The eight-person VPE team invests through both fund commitments and direct co-investments. Analysts gain broad exposure to the asset class and involve themselves in the investment lifecycle, including origination, due diligence, evaluation, and portfolio monitoring.

What You'll Do

 

Reporting to a senior member of the investment team, this entry-level Investment Analyst will provide support and assistance for the oversight and management of the university's investment portfolios by helping with portfolio analysis, operational projects, and Manager due diligence. This position is designed for a tenure of 2 years with a salary of $90,000. There is also a 5% bonus structure in place with the opportunity to achieve 10% for a highly successful candidate.

Responsibilities*

 

Assist the VPE team with Manager due diligence, which includes the initial screening of investment managers; participating in meetings with the managers; quantitative performance analysis and qualitative due diligence; and participating in internal discussions that lead to an investment recommendation

  • Conduct investment research on private equity and venture capital managers and other relevant investment opportunities

  • Prepare investment reports on performance, asset allocation, and risk characteristics of portfolios

  • Provide support for monitoring existing managers and co-investments, performance analysis, staffing, and compliance with guidelines

  • Support investment operations by resolving accounting and performance measurement issues and monitoring VPE fund additions, withdrawals and distributions

  • Some travel will be required

Required Qualifications*

 

Bachelor's degree; an understanding of and interest in investing; strong quantitative and verbal skills; a proven ability to create and use complex spreadsheets; a demonstrated attention to detail and a collaborative work style. An analytical skills test (up to 2 hours allowed) will be required as part of the interview process.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Onsite work is required during the first six months of employment in the role. Upon satisfactory performance during the first six months, a hybrid work arrangement may be an option. Hybrid work requires the team member to be onsite at least 50% of the month.
