Interact with the surgical team and surgeons during surgery to provide interpretative data regarding the patients neurological status.
Measure and accurately apply recording electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 Electrode Placement System.
Identify and eliminate physiological and non physiological artifacts.
Recognize normal patterns and variants and abnormal patterns understand the medical and pharmacological/anesthetic conditions that influence the recording of IOM modalities (e.g. EP, BAER, MEP, etc); understand the clinical correlations between abnormal evoked potentials and various disease states.
Calibrate, evaluate and adjust equipment, optimizing recoding and stimulation parameters to acquire salient data and information.
Implement appropriate troubleshooting methods, such as adjusting stimulation, to assure accurate recording of information.
Display, print and label Waveforms to hard copy for interpretation marking, measuring and calculating information such as latencies, voltages, and conduction times following established sentient guidelines and protocols.
Assist clinical supervisor and medical staff in training of technical staff.
Participate in the conducting of research in the neuroscience area.
Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
Explain test procedures to patients and instruct patient in proper positioning, both before and during the recording.
Maintain appropriate IOM logs, files and work/technical sheet, including a technical description of the IOM modality recoded, with emphasis on the clinical observations in order to assist the neurologists and/or designated MD with the final interpretation.
Calibrate and adjust equipment to be sure it is in proper working condition.
Attend weekly in service training lectures and workshops.
