Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan Medical School Business Operations Team is seeking a project manager to lead and execute multiple concurrent projects within the Dean's Office. 

This position provides operational and strategic support to Michigan Medicine's enterprise data governance program through coordination of committees, oversight of a project portfolio, management of strategy sessions, and maintenance of business-IT alignment.

Other projects include, but aren't limited to, managing department chair and other leadership searches, coordinating external reviews of Medical School departments, and supporting various business operations initiatives. Individuals in this role will work directly with Michigan Medicine leaders, including the Chief Operating Officer, department chairs, chief department administrators, and other key stakeholders.

This position will have dual reporting responsibilities to the Medical School's Administrative Manager for Executive Recruitment and Project Management and the Manager for Data Governance and Strategic Projects.

Responsibilities*

 

The selected candidate will be responsible for the management, performance, and completion of multiple concurrent projects and events and provides a single point of contact for those projects. This individual will:

  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget; develop detailed work plans, schedules, status reports, and projections
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders
  • Effectively communicate stakeholder requirements to team members and assign tasks; communicate project progress to all stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain an excellent working relationship with project or initiative teams and stakeholders
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team
  • Monitor status of projects to ensure completion of milestones from initiation to delivery, keeping executive leadership informed of any deviations
  • Prepare written communications and presentations for a variety of audiences including senior leadership
  • Conduct project meetings and search committee meetings with responsibility for project tracking; identify, assess, and escalate issues, risks, and interdependencies appropriately
  • Ensure adherence to project deliverables and alignment with institutional policies, standards and benchmarks, resolve issues and manage changes to achieve project outputs
  • Manage consensus building among stakeholders with disparate viewpoints
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment functions and plan, coordinate, and execute events, including complex scheduling and full logistical oversight

Required Qualifications*

 
  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience in project management
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and achieve results
  • Strong relationship-building skills, including the demonstrated ability to build consensus among a decentralized stakeholder base
  • Strong team orientation and ability to effectively navigate complex organizations
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate flexibility and commitment to embracing change
  • Detail-oriented and able to bring structure to an unstructured environment
  • Exceptional time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Familiarity with data governance principles and data management
  • Experience facilitating faculty or leadership recruitment efforts
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) or equivalent
  • Experience working in an academic medical center
  • Knowledge of UM policies and procedures

Work Locations

 

This position is hybrid, with an expectation of at least one on-site day per week at the Ann Arbor Medical Campus. On-site work may include occasional early mornings or evenings.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
