About the Center for Educational Outreach (CEO)
The Center for Educational Outreach (CEO) at the University of Michigan advances educational access and opportunity across the state of Michigan by supporting, strengthening, and connecting outreach efforts led by U-M faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
For more than 15 years, CEO has served as the University's hub for college access initiatives, working across K-12 advising, summer programs, mentoring, family engagement, and long-term community partnerships. CEO's work is grounded in the belief that education changes lives and that access is built through sustained relationships, shared knowledge, and authentic storytelling. Through statewide programs and partnerships, including school-based advising, pre-college experiences, and faculty-led outreach, CEO helps students and families understand what college is, why it matters, and how to navigate pathways to and through higher education.
Over the last decade, CEO has intentionally documented its work, building a rich archive of more than 5,000 photographs, dozens of long-form videos, and hundreds of original stories and quotes from students, staff, faculty, and community partners. This archive reflects the lived experiences of people across Michigan whose educational journeys have been shaped by outreach. CEO is now launching its first coordinated public storytelling platforms to share these stories broadly and accessibly, amplifying the impact of U-M outreach and making visible how education transforms individuals, families, and communities statewide.
About the Role: Social Media Manager (Instagram & YouTube)
The Social Media Manager will play a central role in launching and growing the Center for Educational Outreach's Instagram and YouTube platforms. This position is focused on implementation, storytelling execution, and platform stewardship, translating CEO's existing storytelling strategy into a vibrant, consistent, and human-centered public presence.
This role is ideal for someone energized by meaningful storytelling and motivated to bring powerful narratives to life. CEO already has the story assets. This role is about sharing them thoughtfully, ethically, and creatively. Working closely with CEO's Assistant Director for Communication & Technology, the Social Media Manager will take an established social media plan and implement it across Instagram and YouTube, drawing from an extensive content library that includes thousands of photographs, long-form and short-form videos, and documented stories. The content will highlight students, staff, faculty, and community partners, focusing on themes such as college access, educational pathways, mentorship, and post-college careers.
The Social Media Manager will be responsible for:
- organizing and publishing content
- managing editorial workflows and maintaining an editorial calendar
- ensuring accessibility standards are met
- helping shape a cohesive narrative about the impact of the University of Michigan outreach across the state of Michigan, which includes telling stories about why college matters, how education changes lives, and how outreach builds opportunity long before a student ever sets foot on campus.
This role requires someone who brings both care and enthusiasm to the work. The stories shared through CEO's platforms are personal, hopeful, and often transformative. The Social Media Manager should be excited to steward these stories with integrity while building an engaging, welcoming digital community that reflects CEO's mission and values.
Note: This position is a six-month temporary position, serving 20 hours per week at $25/hr, ending in August, with the possibility of extension.
