The Statistical Analysis of Biomedical and Educational Research (SABER) unit is the data coordinating center for several multi-center clinical trials and observational studies. We are a research center located within the Biostatistics Department at the School of Public Health (SPH) on Michigan's central campus. We are seeking an experienced PhD-level or master-level staff member with a commitment to contributing positively to our community. Your role will be to support statistical activities for multiple grants. You will report to the Manager of Statistics. Responsibilities*

 
  • This position will be responsible for overseeing application systems analysis and programming activities supporting SABER within the Department of Biostatistics, University of Michigan School of Public Health. This position plays a key role in evaluating the feasibility of new or revised systems, performing time and cost estimations, and leading the implementation of technology solutions that advance the School's teaching, research, and administrative missions.
  • Develop/review and implement IT Policy, Compliance and Security documentation. Act as the SABER liaison for technical items from UM ITS, Michigan Medicine HITS and SPH IT.
  • Work with SABER functional leads and SABER staff to improve business operations by developing new standards, processes, and tools as well as implementation of these standards, processes and tools.
  • Design, install, and modify information systems. Identify and evaluate vendors for hardware, software and technical services (systems that originate within the software development team as well as central IT systems, such as email, productivity, communication, etc.).
  • Analyze proposed and existing SABER projects for cost and feasibility.
  • Key management responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, and training employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and work hours in accordance with U-M policies; planning and directing work assignments; evaluating productivity and efficiency for purposes of promotions and other status changes; handling complaints, grievances, and disciplinary actions as needed. This position includes the authority to recommend or make decisions regarding hiring, firing, and promotions, with such recommendations afforded significant weight in the School's processes.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's degree in IT and/or design, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of progressive experience designing web-based applications
  • Ability to come up to speed quickly with complex systems
  • Ability to efficiently shepherd teams toward goals, avoiding analysis paralysis
  • Accept input from team, but be comfortable making decisions
  • Excellent writer, able to concisely document complicated systems and scenarios
  • Excellent designer, able to conceptualize creative solutions to complex workflow requirements
