Job Summary

 

The Orthopaedic Surgery department seeks a motivated student (or former student in a gap year) to serve as a temporary Research Assistant. This role will focus on collecting patient-reported outcomes and supporting operational duties related to maintaining records for a quality improvement registry. The position offers hands-on experience in quality improvement and registry management.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Assist with patient-reported outcome (PRO) data collection through online surveys, phone calls, and/or in-person interviews.
  • Enter and verify data within the quality improvement registry database.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and IRB guidelines.
  • Prepare study materials and distribute surveys.
  • Support registry data cleaning, reporting, and quality assurance.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and research staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current U-M student in good academic standing or recent U-M graduate.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to handle confidential data appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
     

Work Schedule

 

This position is a temporary role, with no guaranteed hours.  Anticipated hours are approximately 0-4 hours a week, with possibility for more hours depending on available workload.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
