Join our Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS), with a primary focus on Michigan Medicine, where you'll help protect our academic, clinical, and administrative environments against threats through proactive, innovative security practices.
 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Physical Security, you will conduct thorough security vulnerability and risk assessments, safeguard critical infrastructure, and collaborate closely across university departments and locations to advance the safety, compliance, and resiliency of our facilities.

The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations.

• Conduct Security Assessments: Evaluate and analyze vulnerabilities in physical security systems (access control, alarms, surveillance) and develop actionable improvements.
• Incident Response: Lead site vulnerability surveys after incidents, identify lessons learned, and recommend preventive strategies.

Successful candidates at all tiers may be required to drive University vehicles and must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record of fewer than six (6) points.

Required Qualifications (Senior): Salary range: $87,000-$95,000

• Bachelor's degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years' experience in security risk assessment or physical security assessment (healthcare setting strongly preferred)
• Strong knowledge of Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements
• Familiarity with Enterprise Security Risk Management (ESRM) and ISO/IEC frameworks preferred
• 2 or more of the following certifications held:
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation (CPD) - National Institute of Crime Prevention (or equivalent)
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) - ASIS International
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) - ASIS International
  • Certified Security Assessment Specialist

Required Qualifications (Intermediate): Salary range: $82,000-$90,000

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of security risk/physical security assessment experience (healthcare preferred)
• Some knowledge of Joint Commission standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements
• 1 or more of the following certifications held:
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Professional Designation (CPD) - National Institute of Crime Prevention (or equivalent)
  • Physical Security Professional (PSP) - ASIS International
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) - ASIS International
  • Certified Security Assessment Specialist

Required Qualifications (Associate): Salary range $75,000 - $84,000

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
• 1+ year of security risk/physical security assessment experience
• Ability to obtain CPTED certification within 6 months
• Ability to obtain PSP certification within 1 year

You must pass a comprehensive public safety background investigation and drug screening.

This position is onsite. Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. All members of the DPSS team are considered Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) under The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
