Job Summary

 

Join the Patient Food and Nutrition Services (PFANS) team as a Call Center Representative. In this position, you will serve as a vital communication link between patients, care teams, and food service operations. You will use specialized software to process patient dietary selections and support optimal nutrition operations across Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Answer high-volume room service calls and enter patient meal selections into CBORD software.
  • Collect patient meal requests aligned with prescribed diet orders using portable wireless devices.
  • Cross-reference patient diet orders and allergies between CBORD and MiChart systems to ensure nutritional safety.
  • Resolve routine patient and system inquiries; escalate complex clinical or technical issues as needed.
  • Enter outpatient billing data into designated software applications.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including generating daily operational reports and preparing materials.
  • Deliver menus and nutritional educational items to inpatient nursing units.
     

Required Qualifications*

 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including email navigation and the ability to learn new applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with patients, care teams, and colleagues.
  • Adaptability and a strong collaborative approach in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Physical ability to walk extended distances and lift up to 15 pounds.
     

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Associate degree or completed college coursework.
  • Experience in healthcare, dietetics, or clinical settings (paid or volunteer).
  • Proven customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using MiChart (Epic) and CBORD software.
     

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

 

This posting is for the morning, day, and evening shift openings. Staff working this position can expect to work on weekends and holidays.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
