Job Summary

 

Come join our team at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design!

The Facilities Assistant supports maintenance, security and safety, and general facilities operations within three Stamps School facilities located within Ann Arbor. You will work as a member of the school's essential staff, and performs tasks conducted on site, to the extent possible and within health and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Manage building maintenance requests, coordinate work orders with Facilities, and respond to infrastructure emergencies across all Stamps facilities
  • Conduct regular inspections to resolve maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and accessibility issues; coordinate with custodial and grounds teams
  • Communicate planned and emergent building conditions, shutdowns, and disruptions by email, signage, and direct outreach to impacted partners
  • Support office moves, furniture reallocation, property disposition, and minor renovations, including restoration of common and instructional spaces
  • Oversee building safety and security operations, including access control (CCure), emergency response, and participation in safety and incident response teams
  • Manage safety supplies, first aid and PPE inventories, and coordinate chemical handling, hazardous material tracking, and disposal with EHS and HazMat staff
  • Support events and daily operations through space setup, supply management, delivery and transportation coordination, and equipment inventories
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners on sustainability programs, shared facilities coordination, temporary staff supervision, and central services such as painting and moving

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Basic skills level in using hand and power tools and basic knowledge of general maintenance practices
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality record
  • 3+ years of experience in a Facilities and Operations environment.
  • Basic computer skills, specifically with Google Drive and Adobe Suite applications
  • Move furniture, deliveries, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Travel throughout the buildings and transport materials between Stamps School locations within Ann Arbor
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, maintain organized work materials and spaces

This position is on-site.
