Job Summary

 

The laboratory of Dr. Peter Todd is seeking a lab specialist to assist with animal handling, genotyping, intracerebroventricular injection, animal behavior and animal histology. 

Responsibilities*

 
  • Management of mouse colony- which includes multiple knock-in and transgenic models of neurodegenerative disease, including genotyping, ear tagging, monitoring and adjusting breeding cages.
  • Conduct mouse behavior experiments and assist with data analysis. 
  • Collect mouse tissues for analysis including euthanasia, perfusion, and processing samples for histology and RNA-seq analysis.
  • Administer AAV based viral vectors via intracerebroventricular injection 
  • Assist with administration of medications in food and/or water, and monitoring.
  • Dissect and organize tissue samples and generate histological slides using a microtome and/or cryotome. 
  • Perform immunostaining, image development and quantification using established techniques.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor degree in neuroscience or related field required. 
  • 5 years' experience in research with a minimum of two years' experience working with mice.
  • Interest in working with laboratory mice daily.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Masters degree in neuroscience or related field required.

Additional Information

 

This position is term limited to 2 years. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
