Job Summary

 

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Jean & Samuel Frankel Center for Judaic Studies invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 33.33% effort for each of the Fall 2026 and WN 2027 terms. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 25, 2026, and end on April 30, 2027. As proposed, this appointment is not benefits eligible.

Responsibilities*

 

Duties of LEO Lecturer I positions are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours.

Course Title: Introduction to Talmud, for undergraduate students.

Course Objectives: To introduce the classic Jewish text of the Talmud with attention to its diverse genres and contexts of late antiquity.

Required Qualifications*

 

The candidate must hold a Master's Degree or PhD with competency in Talmudic studies within the frameworks of religious studies and Judaic studies. Prior teaching experience required, specifically experience in teaching Talmud is desired.

Desired Qualifications*

 

Knowledge of relevant languages.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
