The Surgical Intensive Care unit is a 20 bed adult intensive care unit that cares for patients who have had major surgical procedures and/or are experiencing surgical/medical complications requiring extensive physiologic/hemodynamic monitoring. The SICU admits patients from 20 plus surgical and medical services including GI, liver transplant, ENT, maxillofacial, oncology, ortho, and urology. These patients often present with multi-system failure requiring hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, CRRT (dialysis), parenteral nutrition and fluid and electrolyte replacement. In addition the SICU is a major referral center for adult ECMO/ARDS patients. The SICU also receives overflow patients from the Trauma, Neuro, Medicine, Thoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Intensive Care Units.
