The Michigan Public Health Integrated Center for Outbreak Analytics and Modeling (MICOM), housed in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, is seeking an independent and motivated analyst to join our team. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are funding MICOM as part of InsightNet, an outbreak response network, with the goal of using data and analytics to support decision makers during public health emergencies and improve public health practice. Co-Directors Drs. Marisa Eisenberg and Emily Martin and their colleagues have an active research program to integrate mathematical modeling with community-based surveillance to understand various facets of public health. The ideal candidate for this position will be an individual with ample coding, analysis/modeling, and data visualization experience, as well as experience in managing the many details of a complex project. This is a full-time position and provides the opportunity to contribute to the Center's work, primarily in the space of modeling, analytics, data pipelines, reports/visualizations, and tool building.
Within MICOM, a successful applicant will be able to work with a multi-disciplinary team, including local and state health department partners. They will take on projects that are larger in scope and complexity, and may be asked to work with junior analysts, students, and research staff. These projects will range across various public health topics and may include building R Shiny or other dashboards, recurring data reports, and automated data pipelines.
