Job Summary

 

The Craniofacial Research Laboratory, led by Dr. Steven R. Buchman, is working to understand the role of various pharmacologic and cell-based therapies to improve tissue healing in several clinically relevant scenarios, including, but not limited to post-irradiation bone and soft tissue repair, osteomyelitis, and diabetic fracture healing. The Research Area Specialist will be responsible for the administrative, financial, personnel, and planning aspects of our projects. This individual will oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and maintain staff training and compliance with IACUC, EHS, and any other regulatory bodies. 

Responsibilities*

 
  • Supervise data collection and manage data for pre-clinical research projects related to bone healing
  • Develop, design, and conduct research projects; review progress and evaluate results
  • Write research grants and animal protocols
  • Manage and train full- and part-time research assistants
  • Formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality, identify potential problems, recommend and implement solutions
  • Write and edit presentation abstracts and manuscripts
  • Organize and maintain study documentation
  • Present findings at various local, regional, and national meetings

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Masters degree 
  • 5-6 years of related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience
  • Knowledge of IACUC research applications and amendments
  • Excellent animal husbandry and surgery skills, specifically in orthopedic and plastic surgery procedures
  • Experience maintaining compliance with regulatory oversight organizations
  • Demonstrated experience with medical imaging modalities, such as MRI and CT
  • Radiation administration qualification
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong writing ability
  • Extensive experience in grant writing
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects and multitask

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • PhD in a biomedical field

Due to the nature of the work related to this position, you will be working fully on-site.

Additional Information

 

This position is a one-year term limited appointment (with an end date of 1/25/2027) with the possibility of renewal based upon availability of work, funding, and performance. At the end of the stated term, your appointment may terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
