Job Summary

 

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is recruiting well-qualified applicants for a HR Generalist (Associate) position to staff a localized HR operation reporting to the Local HR Supervisor. The primary purpose of these positions is to assist LSA departments with daily administration of activities encompassing several areas of HR management.

  • You will be assigned to work as an HR partner for several departments that are part of a region or division within LSA.
  • You will be the first point of contact for HR questions and needs for faculty and staff supervisors in your assigned region.
  • You will collaborate with Senior HR Representatives, the LSA HR Transaction Team, the Labor Relations Team, and the LSA HR Academic Appointment Specialists
  • You will be part of a team that shows the value the HR profession brings to employee and organizational performance.

What You'll Do

 
  • Coordinate the hiring and selection process of research staff and research fellows, including analyzing appropriate titles, setting salaries, monitoring appointment end dates, and ensuring the renewal process is completed
  • Consult on the LEO contract and assist with the appointment process as requested.
  • Coordinate the immigration process for individuals in your assigned region.
  • Coordinate the leave of absence process for your assigned region, consulting within the bounds of the SPG and LEO contract.
  • Coordinate the student and non-student temporary employment process, including tracking on end dates for non-student temporary employment.
  • Coordinate the processes for visiting scholars and volunteers in your assigned region.
  • Consult with employee groups on timesheet issues 
  • Manage the I-9 completion process, ensuring compliance with federal law
  • Consult with employee groups on concerns related to employment, salary, and benefits.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports as requested using HR data sets
  • Communicate through multiple media to varied audiences while using discretion on sensitive matters

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resource management
  • Some practical knowledge of HR concepts.
  • Previous work experience with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Handle unique situations and provide creative solutions

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR, SHRM-CP).
  • Experience in an HR position supporting multiple units and managers
  • More than three years of progressively responsible experience in the area of Human Resources in an academic or research setting;
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Human Resources or another relevant field;
  • Experience assisting with immigration processing;
  • Experience working in HR information systems and with tools used for analyzing data

Work Locations

 

At LSA Human Resources, we value onsite visibility and encourage regular in-person collaboration, as it helps foster strong relationships with the faculty and administrative staff you'll be supporting. This hybrid position requires onsite work 1-2 days per week, based on business needs. Staff members are welcome to work onsite up to five days per week, if they prefer.

Our office is located on the central campus in downtown Ann Arbor.

Additional Information

 

The salary for this position will range from $54,000 to $64,182. A higher salary may be possible for well-qualified candidates.
