The University of Michigan Department of Family Medicine is seeking two part-time, temporary Assistants in Research to assist with research in CHARGE syndrome. CHARGE syndrome is the leading genetic etiology of congenital DeafBlindness in the United States and impacts nearly every major organ system. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain experience conducting medical chart reviews and increasing expertise about CHARGE syndrome. 

The Assistant in Research will be supervised by Dr. Tyler G. James, Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, and will work closely with staff in the Department.

• Implement the study's protocol as designed. 
• Extract medical/health information using health informatics tools (e.g., Epic Systems electronic health records, EMERSE). 
• Record extracted data using REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture).
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI).

• Currently in good standing if enrolled as a student. 
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong expressive and receptive communication skills.
• Strong interest in clinical research, public health, or related fields. 

• Knowledge of medical terminology. 
• Knowledge of CHARGE syndrome. 
• Prior experience or training using Epic Systems and REDCap preferred. 

• Part-time position starting as soon as January 2026.
• Weekly hours are expected to fluctuate based on project need. Weekly hours will range between 0 to 5 hours per week. 
• This position is limited to the term of the project, which we expect to be approximately 7-12 months.
