Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan's Equity, Civil Rights, and Title IX Office provides support, resources and education to promote a safe and non-discriminatory living, learning, and working environment for all members of the university community. The office consists of several teams: Civil Rights, Disability Equity Office, Intake and Support, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, and Prevention, Education, Awareness & Resources. The office reports up to the Office of the President.

As a multimedia designer within ECRT, you will support the team with the design and development of strategic print and digital communications that advance the mission of ECRT including increasing awareness of university policies, resources, and key initiatives. You will use your skills and experience to create original concepts and designs for print, digital, and multimedia projects and campaigns. You will also contribute to the establishment of a consistent brand, visual identity, and style guide for ECRT. You will join a communications team of two. This position will report to the communications manager.

Responsibilities*

 

Essential:

Design & Develop Multimedia Content (60%)

  • Design and build creative content for print, digital and multimedia projects, including annual reports, marketing collateral, presentations (e.g., PowerPoint), newsletters, and web, social and other digital assets. 
  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback to refine and improve designs; stay informed about design trends and software upgrades to enhance communication materials.
  • Work with external vendors to keep projects on time and under budget.
  • Ensure all multimedia content meets university standards for accessibility, including compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.

Brand & Visual Identity (20%)

  • Assist with establishing and maintaining a consistent brand and visual identity for ECRT and teams across all communication platforms and materials.
  • Create or review design work for accuracy, brand consistency, clarity, and compliance with university policies and ECRT brand guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain organized libraries of digital assets, templates, and brand resources for easy team access and reuse.

Video & Photography (20%)

  • Conceptualize, edit, and produce short videos and animations to support communications campaigns and enhance understanding of ECRT initiatives and available support and resources.
  • Produce and optimize images for print and the web.
  • Adjust and color correct photography and image assets from several different sources for print materials and digital channels.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, multimedia production, advertising, communications, or a related field.
  • 3 or more years of relevant experience in graphic design, multimedia production, or a closely related role, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Portfolio of original work demonstrating proficiency in designing for both print and digital media, including marketing collateral, reports, presentations, web assets, and video/animations.
  • A high level of general computer and software proficiency, with extensive experience in design and layout software, especially Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere). Experience with Microsoft Office and Google tools.
  • Experience producing video and/or animation for marketing, training, or awareness campaigns (concept development, editing, motion graphics).
  • Demonstrable understanding of branding and visual identity principles; ability to apply brand guidelines consistently across diverse platforms and materials.
  • Demonstrable experience in working independently to create high quality printed or digital content. Ability to take multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design concepts to non-designers.
  • Commitment to accessibility and inclusivity; familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1 AA) and how they apply to visual and multimedia assets.
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback to refine designs and enhance project outcomes.

Modes of Work

 

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
