Job Summary

 

To provide comprehensive professional nursing (50%) and educational support (50%) in a multidisciplinary cardiac surgery clinic, supporting the Center for Circulatory Support. Identify gaps/needs and seek to implement interventions and education to improve outcomes. Develop partnerships with other clinical and educational programs to standardize patient care processes.  Facilitate and maintain quality improvement/LEAN activities.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate new employee orientation.
  • Investigate, design, and implement competency-based orientation/evaluation.
  • Evaluate and modify orientation based on clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate the completion of unit based mandatories/competencies and institutional regulatory requirements.  
  • Conduct individualized and group learning programs for members of the health system staff.
  • Identify on-going educational needs and facilitate in-services and staff development programs.  
  • Participate in the development of procedures, protocols and guidelines.  Assist in the development and acquisition of unit resource materials.
  • Actively participate as a member of the VAD Multidisciplinary Leadership team, in area improvement efforts such as research, and CQI.
  • Provide information and promote attendance at continuing education (CE) programs and involvement in professional organization activities by unit staff.  Encourage and coordinate abstract and poster creation for UMH and national organizations.
  • Remain knowledgeable in relevant care standards and assist in the maintenance of nursing practice standards.
  • Provide patient care to maintain clinical competence, act as a role model, and assist in monitoring unit practices.
  • Provide consultation in the area of clinical expertise to the nursing team and other departments.  
  • Coordinate performance improvement program activities.
  • Facilitate support of clinical experts through the nursing framework..

  • Demonstrated development of staff educational materials, including CEU approved programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in planning, developing, and implementing complex Continuous Quality Improvement activities
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of advanced heart failure and mechanical circulatory support.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT NE to ENC-EXPERT NE TO ENC -MASTERY NE

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 5 years recent experience caring for VAD patient population with demonstrated expert clinical leadership abilities.
  • Previous experience with quality improvement/LEAN projects.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.
  • Recent experience as a VAD Coordinator.
  • Previous experience in the development of evidence based clinical protocols.
  • Ability to utilize word processing and data base programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel and PowerPoint to create new documents, enter data, generate graphs and produce presentations.
  • Previous participation in clinical research.
  • Experience in program development, research and regulatory readiness program planning.  

Work Schedule

 

Hours:  36 hrs
Shift:   Days, Monday-Friday, with evening/weekend on-call rotation.
