Responsibilities*

 
  • Management of individuals with pancreatic cancer or other pancreas related abnormalities.
  • Coordination and management of new patients undergoing multi-disciplinary diagnostic tests (imaging, laboratory, procedure) and therapies.
  • Evaluate and present patients at multi-disciplinary conferences.
  • Collaborate with providers in surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetic testing, palliative care, nutrition/dietician, and physical/occupational therapy
  • Direct care and management of patients in the outpatient setting which includes
    • New patient intake visits, performing history and physical, ordering appropriate diagnostic testing, identification of individuals eligible for clinical trials, patient and family education, counseling and support, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and referral to other services and provision of education to nursing staff, students, and community providers.
  • Post-operative care including wound care, drain management and symptom management. 
  • Management of patients in the pancreatic cyst clinic.
  • Review laboratory, pathology, and radiographic test results in multi-disciplinary fashion. 
  • Ongoing monitoring of patients requiring surveillance.
  • Participation in clinical and translational research.
  • Collaborating with other providers in the care of this patient population
  • Participation in workshops, conferences or other CME activities pertaining to oncology and pancreatic cancer.
  • Attend programmatic meetings, research meetings, or Cancer Center meetings and occasionally attend regional or national meetings.

Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program.
 

Required Qualifications*

 
NP: 
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Current specialty certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP, Adult NP or FNP
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) 
  • Current DEA registration required
  • BLS (American Heart Association-AHA) required
  • >4 years of APP experience in complex surgical or oncology practice
  • >2 years of APP experience in multi-disciplinary care settings
  • Experience in organizational leadership
PA: 
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required  
  • Current DEA registration required
  • BLS (American Heart Association-AHA) required
  • >4 years of APP experience in complex surgical or oncology practice
  • >2 years of APP experience in multi-disciplinary care settings
  • Experience in organizational leadership

  • Oncology and surgical APP experience > 5 years.
  • Experience in clinic research
  • Experience in the management and care of pancreatic cancer patients

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as measured by references and interview.
  • Demonstrated leadership in work setting and other professional activities

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
