Job Summary

 

The Markovitz laboratory is in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine. The laboratory is located in the North Campus Research Complex, and is part of a vital and collaborative scientific community. The laboratory is currently small but has many collaborators at Michigan and in other institutions world-wide as the work of the lab is very cross-disciplinary. The theme of the research group is the interaction of viruses and cells, leading to interests in virology, cancer, immunity, and autoimmunity.

Responsibilities*

 

The successful applicant will perform laboratory experiments involving molecular biology and tissue culture. They will further assist in performing experiments involving animal models. Preparation, quality checking, and shipment of recombinant proteins will be an important part of the work. The individual will be responsible for lab management: ordering, keeping records up to date, taking responsibility for leading the way to regulatory approvals and promoting lab safety.

Required Qualifications*

 

Intermediate Level

Bachelor's degree required and 4-5 years' experience. Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience.  We are looking for a person with considerable laboratory experience. The individual must be able to perform experiments with minimal supervision, know molecular and cell biology, be willing to assist others in animal work, and be able to prepare recombinant proteins for our use and that of our collaborators. The individual selected must have enthusiasm and skill in lab management as noted above and be able to work well with individuals at different levels of training. A strong command of the English language is needed. 

Senior Level

Bachelor's degree required and 5-6 years' experience. Desired Qualifications*

 

The ability to write well and knowledge of immunology and/or virology would be a plus.  A masters degree or above would be preferable. Experience with the UM system would be helpful but not necessary.
