Job Summary

 

The University of Michigan-Flint Public Health & Health Sciences department is seeking an undergraduate student as a Research Assistant I (Temporary).  This student will join the research team which consists of faculty, undergraduate and graduate students.  The undergraduate student researcher will help conduct research to understand adolescents' perspectives on improving telehealth (remote care such as video and telephone healthcare visits).   This study is sponsored by the Frances Thompson Fellowship and you will work directly with a Public Health & Health Sciences faculty member.

This position is from December 2025 through June 2026 for approximately 5-10 hours per week, mostly virtual work with some in-person tasks.

Responsibilities*

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct literature reviews to develop expertise in the area of telehealth
  • Participate in mock interviews to prepare for the actual interviews
  • Schedule, conduct, and take notes during the interviews; most interviews will be virtual (video interviews) and conducted with at least one other researcher
  • Engage in writing summaries
  • Serve as a co-author of presentations
  • Be trained on, and assist in, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data including with Dedoose and SPSS
  • Attend workshops on qualitative research
  • Present research findings at local conference(s)
  • Potential to present at a National conference
  • Travel to/from pediatrician offices (mileage reimbursement at University stipulated rate), to recruit pediatricians, place flyers and recruit adolescents

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Current enrolled University of Michigan-Flint undergraduate student in good standing 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Passionate about conducting research to improve telehealth for adolescents and pediatrics
  • Ability to travel to/from pediatrician offices with reliable transportation
  • Available at least 5-10 hours per week

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Prior research experience is preferred, but not required (training provided for the student)
  • Familiarity with Qualtrics and Dedoose, but not required
  • Experience with quantitative data analysis software such as SPSS and Microsoft Excel
  • Must have the ability to work independently on projects
  • Demonstrate the ability to respect confidentiality

Modes of Work

 

Hybrid - 

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence.  On occasion, the employee may be required, and must be available to work. on site more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
