As a part of the Pediatric Trauma Program at Mott Children's Hospital, the Injury Prevention Specialist Intermediate will join our team of dedicated professionals to provide safety education and resources to Mott staff, patients and families in the hospital, as well as the community.  The primary function of this position will be to plan, coordinate and implement child passenger safety/injury prevention educational programs as needed.  This includes recruitment, funding and evaluation of program initiatives. The ideal candidate will have the ability to facilitate and coordinate new partnerships with local agencies and community groups to strengthen the impact of safety education.  This will involve significant contact with hospital staff, patients and families with a diverse set of needs and backgrounds.

• Provide consultation and education presentations to staff, patients and families
• Develop and maintain relationships with hospital staff, departments and community partners through education and outreach
• Coordinate and promote ongoing efforts that relate to injury prevention
• Apply public health concepts to injury surveillance and program implementation
• Utilize evidence-based approach for program development and evaluation
• Present at state and national conferences on topics such as child passenger safety, breaking language barriers in injury prevention and health equity.
• Implement innovative, creative approaches to curriculum design in response to emerging injury prevention trends
• Develop curriculum for educating caregivers, patients and community members on a variety of topics including medication safety, pain management and opioid use disorder
• Develop patient-centered, plain language educational materials for inpatient and outpatient populations across a variety of injury prevention topics, increasing health knowledge and accessibility
• Secure and manage grant funding, strategically allocating resources (e.g., car seats, home safety kits) to meet the needs of low-income families and expand program reach
• Collect feedback from participants and stakeholders to evaluate program effectiveness, driving ongoing refinement and high satisfaction rates
• Regularly identify and leverage data on injury trends to creatively enhance current and new educational offerings
• Create and distribute Child Passenger Safety Technician newsletter to promote programming and recruit volunteers for community events
• Lead volunteers and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize program implementation and delivery, resulting in improved attendance, engagement, and health outcomes
   

• Minimum of 2 years experience as a Child Passenger Safety Technician, instructor level ideal  
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in education, public health, sociology, health promotion, communications or related field of study required
• Comfort with teaching and managing large groups of children and adults
• Strong time management, oral and written communication skills
• Experience in writing, developing and implementing educational programs. Dynamic presentation and public speaking skills vital
• Understanding of grant writing, management and evaluation helpful. PEERS training ideal
• Ability to develop strong evaluation tools for injury prevention initiatives
• Leadership and mentoring skills necessary
• Ability to work independently with initiative and sound judgment

• Prior experience working with families
• Understanding of the importance of sensitivity when working with families of varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
• Proficiency in more than one language ideal
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures as well as university systems
• Experience in academic setting managing and prioritizing multiple different projects 

Candidate will be expected to work 40 hours per week with possible evenings and weekends.  Statewide travel may be needed as circumstances necessitate.
