The School of Public Health (SPH) Environmental Health Sciences department is hiring a LEO for the Winter 2026 semester for master's degree level instruction in the course titled "Control of Occupational Hazardous Exposures" (EHS 654; 2-3 credit course). The course is an Environmental Health Sciences focused required course for the EHS Industrial Hygiene Masters of Public Health and Masters of Science. Programs. The course is offered for 2 or 3 credits. For students enrolling in the 2 credit version, the course provides a discussion of the principles of the control of hazardous exposures encountered in working environments. The class is broadly organized around modules focused on the hierarchy of controls and the application of those controls to exposure sources, pathways, and receptors. Case study exercises illustrate the application of control techniques in real situations and integrate the various approaches from the lecture material. After taking the course, students will be able to recommend and evaluate engineering, administrative, and personal protective controls to reduce or eliminate workplace hazards. Students enrolling in the 3-credit version (required for Industrial Hygiene students, optional for all other students) will receive extended content on ventilation and more in-depth material on using local exhaust ventilation (LEV) for source controls, particularly in occupational settings). These extra sessions introduce students to other ventilation essential concepts such as hoods, air cleaners, fans, etc.
Date of Appointment: This course will be taught by two instructors. Instructor 1 will teach topic exposures (2 credit hours, 16.66% effort, 1/7/2026 - 3/24/2026, weekly schedule) and Instructor 2 will teach topic ventilation (1 credit hour, 8.33% effort, 3/10/2026 - 4/24/2026, weekly schedule).
