Job Summary

 

The successful candidate will serve as a Research Tech Intermediate within the stroke division in the Department of Neurology for an NIH-funded observational study. This position is located in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Stroke is a major cause of disability. We are recruiting research coordinators to help with a NIH-funded stroke research study. The objective of the study is to evaluate the association between sleep disorders and problems with cognition after stroke (e.g. problems with thinking and memory). The study is being performed jointly with another NIH-funded stroke research study.

NOTE: This position is located in CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS and is term limited to 5 years.

Responsibilities*

 
  • Screen potential participants for study participation
  • Recruit participants for the study in person and by telephone
  • Consent participants for the study
  • Coordinate activities with other research coordinators
  • Schedule research visits and remind participants about upcoming research visits by telephone, text message, email, and by mail
  • Make phone calls to a contact person identified by the participant
  • Track participants over time
  • Administer cognitive tests to participants either in writing or electronically (training will be provided)
  • Use personal vehicles to travel to conduct the research visit
  • Perform quality check of the cognitive test data
  • Enter data collected from the participant
  • Upload study data to the research database
  • Maintain accurate and detailed study records
  • Abstract medical record data from Corpus Christi hospitals into study database
  • Participate in training sessions
  • Participate in weekly research meetings
  • Communicate routine correspondence regarding participants? research status
  • other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

 
  • Completion of a high school diploma and/or Associate degree in a relevant health discipline, but other disciplines will also be considered.
  • 1 year related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with others, ability to adhere to study deadlines, ability to follow written instructions, and strong oral and written communication skills are required.  
  • Strong computer skills and organizational skills are also required.

Desired Qualifications*

 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred to serve Spanish speaking population, but not required.
  • The following skills are ideal, but should not exclude anyone interested from applying.
    • Experience in recruiting participants for clinical research
    • Experience in conducting cognitive assessments for clinical research
    • Experience working in medical charts and using medical terminology

Work Schedule

 

Job type: Full-time (8 hour shift)

The candidate will be expected to work some evenings and weekends for participant recruitment and to conduct participant assessments.

NOTE: THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS

This is a 5 year term-limited appointment (through 7/31/2030), with potential for extension depending on funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and you will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

 

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
