Job Summary

 

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 33.33% effort for the Winter 2026 (January 1, 2026- April 30, 2026). This appointment period is January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026.

Course Title(s): Chem 515 - Organometallic Chemistry
Course Objectives: Chem 515 provides a systematic consideration of modern aspects of organometallic chemistry including main group and transition metal complexes.  The structure and bonding in organometallic compounds are covered.  Particular emphasis is placed on applications of homogeneous organometallic catalysis in polymer synthesis, industrial processes, and synthetic organic chemistry.

Responsibilities*

 

Instruction of lecture and laboratory component of undergraduate courses in the Department of Chemistry for the winter term (January 1, 2026- April 30, 2026). This includes development, updating, preparation, and delivery of lecture and laboratory exercises; grading exams and homework assignments; supervision of Graduate Student Instructors; grading of assignments, quizzes, and exams; and meeting with students virtually during office hours.

Required Qualifications*

 

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biophysics, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates who are Research Fellows in good standing in the Department of Chemistry or the Program in Biophysics. Experience instructing introductory Chemistry courses and demonstrated excellence in teaching is required.

Expertise and experience (teaching or research) in the sub-field of organometallic chemistry
