What You'll Do

 

The Annual Giving Manager is responsible for creating and executing annual giving strategies for gifts to the UMS Annual Fund via direct mail, email and digital campaigns. This is not a front line fundraising position, but plays a critical role in the solicitation, processing, stewardship, and analysis of annual gifts to support various programs across UMS. This position is also tasked with all gift processing and gift acknowledgements for the organization, a complex activity requiring data integrity and attention to detail.

(60%) Annual Fund: Secure and steward new, renewed, or increased funding from individuals making gifts annually

  • In collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, develop overall Annual Fund strategy each year -- including discovery, cultivation and stewardship of new and existing donors.
  • Plan, design and implement UMS's print and digital annual fund solicitations, collaborating with the UMS Marketing & Communications team.
  • Identify new constituent prospects to cultivate and target create annual fund communication plans for these prospects.
  • Work with the Development team to establish Annual Fund revenue goals for the fiscal year.
  • Coordinate and establish benchmarks and regular reporting processes to measure results of all annual fund activities.
  • Broadly assist with coordination of and communication to donor/prospect groups and/or recognition programs to acknowledge donors at the appropriate level and retain long-term donors.
  • Prepare personalized giving reminders as needed.
  • Serve as the UMS liaison to the Annual Giving office at U-M Office of University Development (uAG).
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the funding needs and organizational priorities of UMS.

(25%) Gift Processing / Data Management

  • Process all gifts and prepare acknowledgements for all gifts in a timely manner, including realized bequests, stock transfers, payroll deductions, matching gifts and other gifts given through the Office of University Development.
  • Annually pull/create donor listings for publication in Program Book and on UMS website.
  • Prepare and track all gift agreement paperwork and processing on behalf of the UMS Development team.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of both the UMS donor/ticket buyer database, Tessitura, as well as the U-M database, DART, and be able to assist other development staff when needed such as creating mailing lists for all appeals, emails, event invitations, and other situations as they arise.
  • Gather, record and properly store information about prospects and donors in both Tessitura and DART.
  • Serve as department liaison to Gift & Records at Office of University Development (GRA).

(10%)   Administrative Support/Miscellaneous

  • Coordinate all performance sponsor-related stewardship such as pre-concert emails, program book insert credits, physical and digital venue signage, pre-concert announcements, etc.
  • Attend performances and help staff UMS events when needed.
  • Provide assistance to the Development team on projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

(5%) Trade Partnerships and Program Book Advertising

  • Annually solicit and steward existing and new trade partnerships with local businesses.
  • Annually solicit and steward existing and new advertisers for UMS program books.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • A Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years of fundraising experience in a university or non-profit setting.
  • Experience in sales and marketing, or other related fields will be considered.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with an appreciation for process.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with individual donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to attend evening/weekend performances and events when needed.

  • Familiarity with Tessitura, UMS's database, and DART, the University's donor and alumni database.

Work Locations

 

This full-time position, with workdays Monday through Friday, is based in Ann Arbor, MI, on the campus of the University of Michigan.  Evening and weekend work may be required.
