The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) is a dynamic, student-focused department that serves all undergraduate and graduate students through programs, student organization administration, and learning and development. Through meaningful involvement, CCI creates transformative experiences, a vibrant community, and lifelong memories for University of Michigan students. CCI recognizes and supports over 1,700 student organizations through education, advising, advocacy and services. CCI also implements hundreds of social, educational, and cultural programs each year, focused on building community within and beyond University Unions' facilities.

University Unions Overview 

University Unions drives community building and belonging through the integration of its three student union facilities (Michigan Union, Michigan League, Pierpont Commons), Center for Campus Involvement, Campus Information, meeting/event spaces, retail food, bookstore and other services to support student success. UU works in close partnership with Palmer Commons, an academic meeting facility, Conferences & Event Services and Michigan Dining to provide student-focused and customer-oriented service to the campus.

Position Summary:

The Program Advisor provides guidance, support, and learning development opportunities to over 1,700 student organizations, overseeing the new organization process at the University of Michigan as part of the Student Organization (SO) team at the Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) in University Unions. Reporting to the Lead Manager for Student Organizations, you will oversee the learning and development portfolio for student organizations at the University of Michigan, in addition to the application and educational process for the formation of new organizations. As a member of the Student Organization team, you will also support the management of the IdeaHub, a one-of-a-kind 12,000 sq ft coworking and collaborative space designed exclusively for student organization leaders, featuring meeting rooms, dance and movement studios, and a creative art studio space. You will supervise 2 graduate interns and 6-8 undergraduate peer advisors.  
 

Program Development and Implementation (50%)

• Serve as the lead for the Student Organization Learning and Development portfolio, overseeing and creating engagement opportunities and programming for 1700+ student organizations, including but not limited to workshops, asynchronous resource guides and tools, online training modules, and small-group affinity gatherings.
• Plan and execute large-scale programs for student organization leaders and events that connect students to their student organization communities (e.g., Festifall, Winterfest, etc.).
• Collaborate with other University and Student Life partners to implement learning and development opportunities for student organization leaders in alignment with Student Life's approach to leadership development.
• Connect student organization leaders with resources and learning opportunities available across various schools, colleges, and units across Michigan.
• Support student organization leaders through one-on-one consulting/advising, helping them problem-solve and empowering them to make well-informed decisions.
• Use data-driven decision-making to inform and assess work, including how programs and services meet student needs and applicable learning outcomes (e.g., Student Life learning outcomes, M-LEAD, student organization learning outcomes, etc.).

New Organization Processes & Education (30%)

• Oversee the New Student Organization formation process, including but not limited to supporting the new organization team, new organization orientations, new organization application and review processes, and ongoing communications.
• Ensure all new organizations align with University processes and policies, educating students on compliance and risk management.
• Collaborate closely with the Student Organization team to ensure consistency in administrative processes for new and existing organizations.

Supervision, Space, and Team Support (20%)

• Supervise a team of 2 graduate interns and 6-8 undergraduate Organization Peer Advisors (OPA) focused on the Student Organization learning and development portfolio.
• Support student organization administrative processes, including annual student organization re-registration and renewal, event permits, vehicle reservations, and other University processes.
• Serve as a member of the Comprehensive Event Support team, including but not limited to creating and sharing online educational modules on event planning with student organizations, evaluating student organization events for additional support measures, and providing on-site coverage.
• Serve on the management team for the IdeaHub, a 12,000 sq ft collaborative open working space for student organization leaders located in the Michigan Union, supporting the development of policies, procedures, programming, and operational oversight of the space.
• Oversee a programmatic budget encompassing student employee pay, operating costs, programming costs, and miscellaneous expenses.
• Collaborate with Student Organization Account Services (SOAS) to resolve issues related to student organization financial reimbursement, payments, and other matters.

• Bachelor's degree
• At least one year of experience with co-curricular student involvement as a student or professional

• Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Affairs or related field
• 2+ years of experience with co-curricular student involvement as a student or professional
• An understanding of and commitment to the college union philosophy

Physical Requirements:

• This position requires the ability to travel to various campus locations to attend meetings and/or support students programmatically.

• This position supervises 2 graduate interns and 6-8 undergraduate organizational peer advisors.
