Job Summary

 

The Department of Epidemiology is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative, detailed oriented, and organized Research Area Specialist to support projects of the Adar research group and its research on how physical, natural, and social environments affect aging. We practice team-science with close collaborations among scientific experts in a wide range of fields including environmental health, epidemiology, biostatistics, medicine, demography, economics, and sociology. Beyond collaborators at the University of Michigan we also partner with researchers across the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia. 

The Research Area Specialist would work closely with the PI to help coordinate the activities of a large team. They also would have opportunities to contribute to interdisciplinary research through data management, study design, manuscript preparation, and presentation of findings at scientific meetings. 

Responsibilities*

 

Project management duties of the position include: 

  • Oversee and draft budgets for projects
  • Prepare IRB applications and data use agreements
  • Design study timelines and ensure deadlines are met
  • Organize and take minutes for regular meetings of team members
  • Supervise the development of research products by team members and track delivery to collaborators

Scientific duties of the position include: 

  • Develop research protocols and contribute to research direction of the project
  • Ensure environmental data meets the highest quality control standards
  • Supervise the research activities of trainees in the group
  • Conduct complex statistical analyses
  • Prepare written progress reports and scientific guidance documents
  • Present to scientific audiences and author/co-author manuscripts

Required Qualifications*

 

Lead: Minimum requirements masters degree in environmental health, environmental epidemiology, or closely related field with 7+ years of experience, doctoral degree preferred 

Senior: Minimum requirements masters degree in environmental health, environmental epidemiology, or closely related field with 5+ years of experience, doctoral degree preferred 

All applicants should be highly organized, have experience with project management, work well collaboratively, and be clear communicators. They should have strong data analytic skills, experience with spatial data, and a strong understanding of how environmental exposures impact health. The ability to occasionally travel to group meetings (approximately 2-3 times per year) is also beneficial.

Work Schedule

 

This position allows for a hybrid work schedule. Fully remote work arrangements may be considered.

Underfill Statement

 

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The salary range for the Senior level is $71,479 - $88,298, and the salary range for the Lead level is $89,537 - $110,604.

Additional Information

 

This position is term-limited for one year from the start date, with the possibility of extension based on performance and continued funding.
