Job Summary

 

The Region V Public Health Training Center (RVPHTC) at the University of Michigan School of Public Health seeks a Program Assistant to support regional workforce development activities. The Program Assistant will work closely with the Training & Engagement Senior Manager and larger team to lead procurement and payment processing for the center, support maintenance of a learning management system, lead customer service, and other tasks specific to leadership programming, and additional tasks as assigned.
 

The RVPHTC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Our purpose is to strengthen the current and future public health workforce through continuing education, student development, and other capacity-building activities done in collaboration with community-based partners and technical assistance providers.
 

The Region V Public Health Leadership Institute (RVPHLI) is a leadership program that aims to build adaptive leadership knowledge and skills among current and emerging leaders in public health and primary care. For the 2026 cohort, 38 participants will engage virtually from January ? April 2026.
 

This is a temporary, part-time position from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, with possible extension pending available funds.

Responsibilities*

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
35% Procurement
 

  • Generate invoices to individuals and organizations for training payments, conference sponsorships, and more.
  • Coordinate with UM Shared Services to process invoices, payments, and orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with 40-45 students to process stipend payments.
  • Maintain organized documentation.
     

30% E-Learning Management

  • Work closely with the staff team to maintain the Canvas-Catalog learning management system, including setting up new courses using templates.
  • Work closely with the Training & Engagement Senior Manager to maintain the internal course site for leadership institute participants, including but not limited to: inputting attendance
  • into the gradebook, uploading recordings into the course site, and implementing text-based content updates.
     

25% Leadership Institute Customer Service

  • Responsible for customer service inquiries specific to the Region V Public Health Leadership Institute via email, communicating accurate program information with participants.
  • Send periodic reminder emails to participants regarding course assignments, program requirements, etc.
  • Communicate course information with training participants and the staff team.
     

5% Partner and Team Coordination
 

  • Organize logistics for virtual partner meetings, such as scheduling, minutes, and other communications, to keep collaborative activities on track.
  • Participate in internal meetings to foster the refinement of program design and evaluation.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

 
  • 1-3 years of experience in an administrative role or relevant experience. 
  • Experience with procurement, including payment processing, generating invoices, etc. Familiarity with UM Shared Services is a plus.
  • Effective communication with varied audiences, especially written.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and other tools for project management.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete assignments independently with excellent attention to detail and under general supervision. Also able to work collaboratively as part of a team. ?
  • Experience working in training or educational settings is preferred.

Work Locations

 

This is a remote position, with occasional in-person meetings at the UM School of Public Health in Ann Arbor possible.
