Job Summary

 

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan invite applications for a LEO Lecturer I position at 33.33% effort to teach STATS 449, Intro to Biostatistics for Winter 2026 term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on 01/01/2026 and end on 04/30/2026. This is a part-time, one-term appointment that may be extended, subject to departmental needs and satisfactory performance.

Responsibilities*

 

The initial appointment period is for the Winter 2026 term.  Responsibilities include teaching one undergraduate course, STATS 449, holding office hours and handling routine matters related to instruction. This course is an introduction to biostatistics covering topics such as survival analysis; longitudinal studies; missing data; clinical trials, cohort and case-control studies; experimental versus observational data; issues of causation, and randomization; diagnostic testing; image analysis of PET and MRI scans; and statistical genetics.

Required Qualifications*

 

Candidates should have a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Statistics or a related field, knowledge of biostatistics including topics such as survival analysis; longitudinal studies; missing data; clinical trials, cohort and case-control studies; experimental versus observational data; issues of causation, and randomization; diagnostic testing; image analysis of PET and MRI scans; and statistical genetics. At least one year of college-level teaching experience or equivalent instructional experience is required. 

The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
