Job Summary

The U-M CLaSP department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We seek to hire a faculty member at the assistant professor level whose research advances our understanding of weather systems and extreme weather, with a strong foundation in atmospheric dynamics and the coupled Earth system. Areas of expertise could include high-resolution weather and climate modeling and forecasting; the detection and attribution of extreme events; and assessments of the subseasonal-to-seasonal or decadal evolution of weather and climate. Machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) methods are widely applied in meteorology and atmospheric modeling and are revolutionizing prediction and forecasting; we expect the successful candidate to contribute a high level of expertise in this area.

Responsibilities*

We seek candidates capable of developing an internationally recognized research program, competing successfully for external funding, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, contributing to our educational mission at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and strengthening the culture, diversity, and collaborative environment of the department, college, and university. We value applicants whose research and teaching interests are interdisciplinary and have the potential to address real-world weather and climate impacts.

Required Qualifications*

A PhD in a subject related to meteorological, atmospheric, or climate sciences, or other relevant disciplines in sciences or engineering is required.

Desired Qualifications*

Postgraduate research experience
