Job Summary

 

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with training/education in biology to serve as research technician for a basic science-oriented laboratory housed in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology. The laboratory focuses on understanding the basic mechanisms of epithelial differentiation and tissue homeostasis in both normal and diseased conditions, utilizing mostly cell culture and transgenic mouse models. 

This is a 2-year term-limited appointment.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Responsibilities*

 

Under the supervision of a senior member of the laboratory, The Lab Tech will perform experiments and lab duties by following established experimental protocols. Additional responsibilities will include: breeding and genotyping of mice. A basic understanding of the theorical principles behind the experiments and assays is required. 

The Lab Tech will use universal safety precautions to protect one self and co-workers from hazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens. The Lab Tech will maintain complete and organized records and reports, as well as keeping laboratory areas clean and orderly.

Required Qualifications*

 

A B.S. degree in a science related field and 1-3 years of lab experience is required. A Master's degree in science-related field is preferred. 

Familiarity with biological systems, a willingness to work with mice and in a team setting, outstanding organizational skills, and impeccable ethics are essential skills. Further, the ability to follow protocols carefully and reproducibly and to maintain accurate records is important.

Modes of Work

Background Screening
