Under the guidance of the Associate Director of Development, Children's and Women's Health, this position will focus on fundraising efforts to increase support for the Departments of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospitals. The Assistant Director will manage and solicit a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, conducting best-in-class identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities. 

The Assistant Director is responsible for representing and advocating the mission and priorities of the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospitals, and the University at large to individuals, groups, and foundations. The Assistant Director will create short-term and long-term strategies for donors with an interest in supporting the C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospitals while collaborating with development colleagues in other units to engage donors with cross-over interests. 

The Assistant Director will manage and solicit a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, and plan systematic, appropriate and effective solicitation strategies for these prospects while qualifying new prospects through discovery visits. The Assistant Director will be accountable to the performance metrics associated with a MGO Intermediate and achieve the U-M development community standards set for that position as outlined below. The Office of Development supports an overall culture of flexibility with gift officers expected to be outside of their home offices meeting with donors, faculty or colleagues a minimum of three days each week.

Strategic Planning: (15%)

• Implement a comprehensive multi-year fundraising plan to increase philanthropic support for the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospitals by working closely in coordination and collaboration with the Directors, Department Chair, Division Chiefs, lead faculty and Administrators.  

Major and Principal Gifts: (75%)

• Spend at least 75% time on direct fundraising. Personally maintain a portfolio of 50-100 major, principal gift, and planned giving donor/prospects. Conduct approximately 85-120 visits with donor/prospects per year. Participate in approximately 20-40 solicitations per year. Complete 18-30 managed asks as well as 10-20 closes. Plan systematic, appropriate, and effective solicitation strategies for major and planned gift prospects, focusing on gifts of $100K+.
• Oversee the preparation of case statements, proposals, solicitation letters, stewardship reports, and other cultivation and stewardship material for prospects/donors. Create an annual plan for fundraising by working closely in coordination and collaboration with faculty and lead administrators.
• Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual prospects.
• Aggressively identify, and formally qualify, new major and planned gift prospects by developing and executing long-range and short-range strategy designed to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of individual prospects as well as to produce a continuous pipeline of donors capable of making significant gifts.
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the Department and Hospital development priorities and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific Michigan Medicine and University needs. 
• Increase philanthropic support for research, education, programs and patient care for the benefit of the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S. Mott Children's and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospitals.
• Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive, timely and innovative stewardship and donor relations plans for donors in the portfolio. 
• Coordinate and facilitate activities that will directly result in prospect identification, engagement and successful solicitations, including advising chairs, department heads and development colleagues on the culture, expectations and needs of medical development constituents. 
• Maintain strong lines of communication with colleagues in other Michigan Medicine and Medical School units, the Office of University Development, and appropriate schools and colleges across the University to ensure effective collaboration and synergy in achieving fundraising goals and objectives. 
• Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and other development personnel in identifying grateful patient referral opportunities and supporting the overall Michigan Medicine campaign goals. 
• Through collegial consultation and cooperation, demonstrate and be a model of collaboration in the development community, while representing Michigan Medicine development values and its unique role at the University of Michigan. 

Staff Mentorship and Engagement: (10%)

• Assist in the efforts of the children's and women's health development team and other development staff as appropriate, including event sponsorship solicitation, gift work and increasing teamwork with core services/liaisons to create an environment of engagement.

• Bachelor's degree. 
• At least 3 years of progressively responsible major and principal gift fundraising in an academic medicine setting. 
• Demonstrated ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy, and an impeccable commitment to confidentiality is required, as well as highest integrity and ethics. 
• Demonstrated success in raising capital, program support, endowment, and/or planned gifts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as a proven record of working collaboratively and diplomatically with others is necessary. 
• Must be able to manage several projects simultaneously, understand the need to re-evaluate priorities, and flourish in a fast-paced atmosphere. 
• Must be an excellent team player who thrives in a collaborative setting.
• Candidate will be required to have reliable internet service and transportation.
• Periodic travel for donor engagement, conference attendance, etc. 

• Master's degree.
• Knowledge of the University of Michigan organization, policies, and procedures.

The onsite location for this position is located at 777 E. Eisenhower Parkway, Ann Arbor and provides free, on-site parking for staff.

This position is a flexible, hybrid position. The Michigan Medicine Office of Development supports an overall culture of flexibility with gift officers expected to be outside of their home offices meeting with donors, faculty, or colleagues a minimum of three days each week. While work arrangements are flexible, you must currently, or be willing to, reside within a daily commutable distance of the office. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on business needs.
