Job Summary

 

Position Overview

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan is seeking a full-time clinical track faculty member with expertise in infant, toddler and early childhood mental health (i.e., up to child age 5).  The successful candidate will have substantial expertise in this developmental period, as well as in evidence-based assessment and treatment for vulnerable families with young children.  The applicant will be an active participant in the expansion of our child psychiatry specialty clinic and services (Infant and Early Childhood Clinic/IECC), including opportunities to be involved in both research and community-based service projects including integrated care activities.  The successful candidate will have training and expertise in relationship-focused dyadic assessment and intervention.  The candidate will join a dynamic group of faculty who hold significant expertise and interest in research and clinical work focused on infant and early childhood mental health, early intervention, intergenerational transmission of risk, and interventions for families with young children who have experienced trauma and adversity. This position will report through the Women and Infant Mental Health Program Directors in Ambulatory Psychiatry.

Educational Activities

The successful candidate will serve as on-site/directly available outpatient supervisor and preceptor for psychiatry house staff, medical students, and/or psychology postdoctoral fellows, and provide didactic lectures for primary care and specialty care colleagues, medical students, general psychiatry residents, child psychiatry fellows, and a broad range of health professionals and trainees (i.e; social work, psychology, pharmacy, nursing, etc.). There will be opportunities to teach in core curriculum, medical student teaching, and journal club. The successful candidate will be involved in Resident recruitment and interviewing process.

Administration

The successful candidate will be expected to attend Faculty Meetings within the Department of Psychiatry, at minimum this will include All-Staff, discipline-specific team meetings, and/or other administrative meetings deemed necessary by their reporting supervisor. In addition to timely attention to pertinent administrative work (e.g., electronic medical record and in-basket monitoring, phone calls, letters, records, e-mails, etc.), the new faculty member will participate in all relevant quality improvement initiatives and activities.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must hold MD and/or PhD or equivalent and is required. Possession of a current license to practice medicine or clinical psychology in the State of Michigan is necessary. Applicant must be board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry or Psychology. Superior clinical competencies and master teacher skills are necessary and be an active member in good standing of the University of Michigan Medical Staff.
